Unforgettable Week

This post features student writing.

From Ho Chi Minh City to our village work sites, the past week will never be forgotten. I have had the opportunity to meet new people, immerse myself in a new culture, and experience moments with strangers who quickly became friends. Our group bonded right away and we work well together on and off the work sites. Our leaders take the initiative to make sure that everyone gets to know each other and no one is excluded. Our past week consisted of arriving in the beautiful Ho Chi Minh City and exploring the amazing history it has to offer, including the American War Museum and the Independence Palace. We also got to walk around a market and try some, in my opinion, pretty good food. From there, we made our way to Da Nang and got to work on our work sites with translators and foremen. Being able to work alongside these men and know that we will be making someone’s day better is an amazing feeling. The Vietnamese people are go gracious and welcoming, as they share their stories and very, very delicious dishes. On Friday, we got to spend the morning picking chili peppers with local villagers and took a cooking class using the peppers we picked! We also celebrated our arrival and were welcomed into their lives with the Youth Union earlier in the week. In the afternoons we spend time at the beautiful beach across the street or relax on the rooftop terrace of our guest house. The past week has been a whirlwind of emotions and experiences. I can’t wait to see what the future has to offer for us!
